KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) -- Bayan Baru Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim today named eight MPs, whom he claimed were ready to jump ship in the opposition's bid to takeover the government on Sept 16, 2008.

IPOH, March 18 (Bernama) -- Perak Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman Datuk Nadzri Ismail has lodged a police report against fake State Assembly Speaker V. Sivakumar.

He said this was because Tronoh State Assemblyman Sivakumar had used the official letterhead of the Perak State Assembly to issue a notice on the assembly session on March 30.

Manjoi State Assemblyman Nadzri said Sivakumar was relieved of the Speaker's post on May 7, 2009 and that it was verified by the Ipoh High Court.

KUALA LUMPUR:The claim by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that 1Malaysia was copied from the Israeli government's concept is a lie and politically motivated, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said.

Khairy, who is also Rembau member of parliament, challenged Anwar to withdraw his statement made in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday or make the statement outside the Dewan (House) so that legal action could be taken against him.

KUALA LUMPUR: The remand of a local actor has been extended for seven days.

The 30-year-old actor who is also the son of a multi-award winning veteran actress was brought from the Bukit  Jalil police station lock-up to the Kuala Lumpur Court at Jalan Duta at 10am.

Court registrar, Bakri Ali Omar said the remand will start tomorrow and end on March 25.

The actor was later taken back by police back to the lock-up at Bukit Jalil.

PETALING JAYA: The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) is all for the implementation of the Education Ministry's 'one-student one-sport' vision, which will be implemented next year.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government's declassification of documents pertaining to Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) will depend on the completion of the audit works, said an aide to Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

KUALA LUMPUR: The country's Islamic Family Law needs to be comprehensively reviewed although it has been enforced all this while, says Perlis Mufti Dr Juanda Jaya.

In a statement issued today, he said one of the issues that should be looked into is marriages involving underage girls, which could be curbed by the religious authority (court).

KUALA LUMPUR: Influenza Like Illness (ILI) cases in the country saw a sharp rise as 363 new cases were referred to hospitals from March 7-13, said Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.

KLANG: Three "policemen" escaped with RM4,000 from a 52-year-old man last Sunday at a flat in Pandamaran here.

In the 10am incident, the victim's neighbour told him three men were trying to pry open the lock to his Kawasaki motorcycle parked downstairs.

The victim went down to check and as he approached the suspects, one of them flashed a card and claimed they were from Bukit Aman's commercial crime department.

One of the suspects told the victim to get his vehicle documents and road tax for inspection.

KUALA LUMPUR: It is a "fair" and "reasonable" amount to compensate a golfer who was bitten by a crocodile  while playing at a resort in Malacca in 2004.

The High Court today ordered A'Famosa Golf Resort Bhd to pay RM43,000 to a company director who sued the resort in Malacca after he was attacked and bitten by a crocodile in 2004.

By consent of the defendant, High Court judge Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal recorded the judgement for A'Famosa to pay Hong Kee Siong, 48, of Taman Sungai Besi the amount for general damages and legal  costs.

SHAH ALAM: A Malaysian and Indonesian national were both sent to the gallows after being found guilty of drug trafficking by a high court here today.

Judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin passed the death sentence after finding the defendants had failed to raise reasonable doubt against charges levelled against them.
