KUALA LUMPUR: Artistic gymnast Nabihah Ali wants to have another "fling" with the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India in October.

She was in the team that competed at the 2006 Games in Melbourne. Nabihah was then 15 and finished 19th.

She is the only survivor from the  trio that included Nurul Fatiha Abdul Hamid and Tan Khai Leng who have retired.

“ The next few months will be crucial in my attempt to qualify. I still do not know the format of selection for the Commonwealth or Asian Games.

COLOMBO: Veteran Sri Lanka batsman Sanath Jayasuriya came under fire for his decision to enter politics while still playing for the national team.

Jayasuriya will contest April 8 parliamentary elections as a candidate for President Mahinda Rajapakse's Freedom Alliance party in his home constituency of Matara.

The 40-year-old retired from Test cricket in 2007 but has vowed to continue his international career in the shorter forms of the game.

BARCELONA: Former champion Lewis Hamilton signed off McLaren’s pre-season testing programme on a high note as the Briton topped the timesheets in Barcelona.

Hamilton racked up a mammoth 134 laps around the 2.875-mile Circuit deCatalunya yesterday as he switched between qualifying and race simulation runs.

His best time of one minute 20.472 seconds was two-hundredths  of a second faster than second-placed man Mark Webber of Red Bull.

KUALA LUMPUR: Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja'afar expressed disappointment after Kuala Lumpur failed in their bid to win the 2013 International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting.

Tunku Imran, an avid squash and cricket fan, felt that Buenos Aires won due to “sympathy votes”. Tunku Imran is in Vancouver, Canada to attend the 122nd IOC general assembly and witness the voting where KL lost 58-31 to the Argentinian capital city.

VANCOUVER: Kuala Lumpur lost their bid to host the 2013 International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting. Despite a video message by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the country lost 58-31 to Buenos Aires after the votes were counted at the 122nd IOC general assembly this morning.

Buenos Aires proposed a budget of US$3.4 million (RM11.64m). The IOC meeting is vital as the 2013 edition will award the hosting rights of the 2020 Olympics to the winning nation.

PARIS: Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt will race the 100 metres in the June 12 meet at New York, the fifth leg of the Diamond League, event organisers announced this morning.
