SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government's declassification of documents pertaining to Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) will depend on the completion of the audit works, said an aide to Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Khalid's Press secretary Arfa'eza Abdul Aziz also played down the significance of the rejection by YBK for access to their records.

She told The Malay Mail yesterday that it was possible for an audit on YBK accounts to be done as the  Selangor government already has information on the foundation.

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government appears to be non-committal on signing an anti-graft deal for the  RM50 billion Sungai Klang clean-up projects, as suggested by Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M).

The State's Agriculture, Natural Resources and Entrepreneurial Development committee chairman Yaakob Japari said yesterday:

"The  Selangor government has always been firm in being transparent in handling every project in the State.

CLARA XAVIER of Puchong is furious by the lack of commitment showed by several Perodua service centres to replace a defective part on her car which has irritated her for more than a year.

"In September 2008, I bought a white ViVa 1.0 EZ from Perodua's Bandar Bukit Puchong branch office. Soon after, the car started having noises. I complained to the salesman and he told me the car is under a three-year warranty and it is best for me to report the problem during the scheduled service," she says.

MUHARYANI of Subang Jaya says she was overcharged for her Jan 8 to Feb 8 water bill. As the Selangor government gives the first 20 cubic metres of water free, she is confused how the amount could have escalated.

As she lives alone, MUHARYANI says all this while, she has been getting bills with the deducted amounts.

Recently, she was surprised to receive one for RM366.90. She believes it might be the result of some  underground leakage or incorrect billing.

KUALA LUMPUR: Anuar Shaari, a former aide of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, urged the police and Immigration Department to check on the status of Aasil Kazi Ahmad, a man he claims has links to blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin.

Raja Petra went missing after two warrants of arrest were issued for failing to attend a court hearing on April 23 and May 23 for publishing seditious words and defaming Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of the prime  minister, on his portal, www.malaysia-today.net.

PETALING JAYA: Even though the planned demonstration against the tabling of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill in Parliament yesterday was cancelled, the fight against it was far from over.

According to Protes, a coalition of activist groups and opposition parties against the GST, a series of campaigns and demonstrations are being planned even though the government has postponed the tabling of the bill.

The coalition plans to organise another mass gathering on May 1, in conjunction with Labour Day.

PETALING JAYA: Consumer association groups support the goods and services tax (GST) to be implemented by the government, but also expressed concerns over the lack of education and awareness among the public on the matter.

According to Consumer Research and Resource Centre chief executive officer Datuk Paul Selvaraj, the implementation of the GST will help improve the nation’s economic situation in more ways than one.

“With the GST replacing the sales and service tax, there will be more efficiency in the product costs people pay,” Selvaraj said.

PETALING JAYA: Proton Holdings Berhad has clarified that only 481 members of their staff have been receiving RM600 as basic monthly salary, since 2003.

These staff members, according to Proton, are also the ones undergoing six-months job training at the Shah Alam and Tanjung Malim plants.

"Upon completion of training, these employees receive their first salary increment," said Proton in a statement yesterday.

PETALING JAYA: The bus terminal for passengers bound south is in its final stages of completion.

Bandar Tasik Selatan Integrated Transportation Terminal Southern Sector (ITT-S), project manager from Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd, Ghazali Abdul Latif, said about 80 per cent of the construction work has been completed, with the remaining involving road works, and refining and furnishing the terminal and its surrounding areas.

"Everything is on schedule. We will be done by the scheduled date of Nov 19," Ghazali told The Malay Mail yesterday.

PETALING JAYA: The Congress Workers Union in the Civil Service (Cuepacs) is all for action to be taken against civil servants found guilty of wrongdoing.

"Anyone who commits an offence deserves to be punished," said its president, Omar Osman. He added that action taken will serve as a lesson and reminder to other civil servants to be transparent in going about their duties.

"Civil servants will think twice before doing any wrong. If they want to commit any wrongdoing, they must bear in mind the risks involved," he said.

PETALING JAYA: Sime Darby Property reiterated its stand on the Taman Subang Ria development plan saying the park is private property belonging to the group, and not a public park as claimed by certain quarters.

KUALA LUMPUR: A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years jail and 10 strokes of rotan for drug possession at the Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning.

Mohd Syaiful Effendi Mohd Daud, initially charged for trafficking, was offered an alternative charge by deputy public prosecutor Naziah Mokhtar, for possession instead.

He was earlier charged for trafficking and possessing 447g of cannabis under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the death sentence.

PETALING JAYA: The battle between Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) and Selangor government is set to go to  the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) soon.

So far, 20,000 Serendah residents have responded to YBK’s petition in support of its report on the violation of its development rights to Suhakam.

“With their support, it shows the problem is not just PYBK’s (Permodalan Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan), the rightful landowner, but also the Serendah residents,” said YBK chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Sakom.

PETALING JAYA: Local councils are set to act against 'Ali Baba' traders who lease their business licences and premises to foreigners.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail said, to stop the unhealthy trend, City Hall will be introducing identification tags for all business owners.

FAREEZA of Kuala Lumpur is pursuing her degree studies in Australia and she has booked a flight to Perth for Feb 13 with Malaysia Airlines (MAS).

"I booked the ticket online via the MAS website on Dec 22 for the flight which departs from KL on Feb 13 at 9.40am," she says.

"A friend later called me to say that MAS had changed the flight time to Perth and advised me to check with the customer service department to find out if my ticket was still valid."
