Defence radars operational along Sabah's east coast
SEMPORNA (Sabah): Out of the eight defence radar units designated for the east coast of Sabah, four are already operational, said Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad.
He said the remaining four were expected come onstream by year end.
"The command and control centre for the radar network is also ready. As such, we have the capability to monitor and supervise security in Sabah round-the-clock," he told reporters after visiting the Sri Wangsa military camp near here today.
At the camp, Abdul Latiff also witnessed a demonstration on the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
He said the Marine Operations Force and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency were also linked to the radar system and as such there need not be worries by anybody about the safety and security of the coastal waters off Sabah.
Abdul Latiff was referring to travel alerts issued recently by foreign missions that there was a possibility of terrorist attacks off the east cost of Sabah.
