MALAYSIAN football golden boy Amri Yahyah's two goals against Manchester United have earned him the adoration and recognition of fans, even non-football fans.

The latest, a group called "Amri Yahyah for Dato' Seri" was formed on Facebook, and six videos highlighting the newly-crowned Malaysia's football "saviour" have been uploaded on YouTube.

According to the administrators, Vincent Liew and Armand Zarim, the group is the "official petition to honour
and reward Amri Yahyah with a Dato' Seri title''. Liew said: "If Shah Rukh Khan can get a Datukship, why can't Amri? Shah Rukh didn't do anything for us, except for the dancing around trees with 40 dancers. Datuk Amri Yahyah is more like it!"

Some of its 75 fans, however, don't share the same sentiments and voiced their opinions by stating that it's unsuitable to give Amri the title.

"Luckily Amri didn't score a goal in the rematch. If not, somebody will surely suggest that he gets a Tun instead," said Nasrul Izwan.

Another football fan, Abdul Iqbal Ahmad, said: ‘'Just because he did well during the match, doesn't mean he
should be given a Datukship.

"It was just a friendly match. He still needs to prove that he's a good football player. At least like Lee Chong Wei who brought us to the badminton finals in the Olympics."

YouTube videos of Amri's wonder goal have also been showered with numerous  hits and comments.

To date, the videos have scored a whopping 9,339 hits. Those who sang a different tune feel that United played the game at half pace which resulted in Malaysia scoring two goals.

"Malaysia would've lost. Not to put down our team, but that's the reality. Whatever it is, Amri's first goal was beautiful, so was the second one," said YouTube user ZizouMerci.

Meanwhile, Amri was shocked to learn of the group and thanked them for the support they've given him.

Asked if he'd like to get a title for his performance, Amri said he doesn't mind at all, as long as his performance
as a player gets better.

Last Saturday, Amri scored in the 45th minute, followed by another in the 52nd  minute, making history for
Malaysia after the 2001 game where Malaysia lost 0-6 to United.

Tolonglah.Kalau tak nak Amri dapat gelaran Datuk Seri jgn la hentam macam2.Bayangkan jika anda bermain utk pasukan kebangsaan dan menjaringkan 2 gol.Mesti suma paper muka depan gambar korg.Group facebook tu hanya menunjukkan sokongan yg x berbelah bahagi kat Wak Am.Wak Am sekarang dah jadi wira atau hero kanak2 di seluruh negara & mungkin kat luar negara jugak.Bila aku tgk kat padang2 bola, suma bebudak sampai la remaja akan kata macam ni, "ITU DIA AMRI YAHYAH MEREMBAT".Kanak2 mesti x suka kalau hero mereka diperlekehkan.Tak caya?Cuba korang kata Ultraman dgn Digimon tu lembik, apa reaksi diorang? P/s: Yg x puas hati ngan Amri ni pergi stadium x?Kalau x pergi, ini la org kata lebih kat mulut je.Konon sokong bolasepak tempatan tapi x pernah jejak stadium, apa guna?

How about Matlan Marjan who scored twice against England in the 90's...? or a Former Malaysia player (can't remember the name) who played for Juventus (italy) back in the 60's or 70's.....

Comonlah....its not a one man show here. Its the entire teamwork. He can't score without other players passing the ball to him. Let see if he can score again when Malaysia played other matches.....I don't think so.

Sure.. give it to him.. why not... Datukships had been given away to anyone these day, not like it has real value (as it was supposed to)... It'll be just a matter of time before we can buy them in 7-11. "Hi, could I get a slurpee, a pack of cigarettes and one of those Dato' Seri tittle, please..."

He scored 2 goals. Leave it at that. A Datukship is not indicated here, for sure. Should a doctor get a Datukship for saving his patients?Should a policeman get a Datukship for protecting the public?

Typical jaguh kampung mentality. Should give Datukship to Ben Foster instead. Without him, the entire Msian team wont look so good.

We give away titles for the most trivial of matters. I once held the tube doors open so that a little old lady could safely exit the train in London. I was given a pat on the back by a nearby passenger for being considerate. Can I get a title too?

you guys don't get it do you? the datuk seri is like...'perli' to the authority la. lighten up la people!don't get yoru knickers in knot. can't read between the lines ke? although i do think amri did deserve the title. hey, if a few seconds gyrating hips in melaka can get you one...so does scoring 2 goals against the mighty MU.

How about we also "bestow" Datukship to everyone in the team? Amri wasnt the only one playing on that field with Man U . No disrespect to you En.Amri but you've got a long way to go... Best Example would most definitely be Datuk Nicol Ann David; Her accomplishments: A.First squash player to have won the World Junior title twice (1999 and 2000). B.Captured the World Open title in 2005, 2006 and 2008, and the British Open title in 2005, 2006 and 2008. C.First Asian woman to be ranked World No.1. D.Straight A's student. Now this is the type of person who deserves "datukship". Perhaps we could arrange an opportunity for Amri to try out for Man U?? now thats worth a shot right??

Get a life. If this is the proposal for sportmen ... how are we going to see a genuine Malaysian sportsman??? His scoring is part of the game. In fact we being the National team should not stoop too low with a club team. No doubt its a successful team but being overly excited is not appreciated. Look at what happenned to Matlan Marjan. I believe he also scored 2 goals against another National team some time back,. What about Mokhtar Dahari. He scored agains good team/countries such as Korea and England. Pls grow up laa

what about A.L. Henry, a malaysian indian from Sentul who used to play for Arsenal in the 1930's ... though for a couple of game. come on, it's only a friendly game ... why not arragnge a game with Man U at Old Trafford during the peak of the premiership season ... amri yahyah can be judged from that game.

This is a joke... please stop making Malaysia a laughing stock to the world. While Amri did well that day, so did the whole team. If a Malaysian can get a title by scoring against a well known team, then no one will want to take up the goalkeeper's position in future as the likelihood of scoring is very low!!! Giving a title to Amri will lead to loss of team spirit and be detrimental to Malaysian sports as a whole. Amri may have been the hero on that day but he needs to keep showing that performance in each and every match after this. Rewards and titles should be given judiciously to help maintain it's worth. Otherwise, in future we may have a team of players who are selfish and will not want to pass the ball to their mates to have a shot at goal as each one will be aiming for personal glory and of course, hoping to get a title in return. Let's not forget that Amri was merely performing his duty as a striker in our national team. He saw a chance, took it and scored. The whole team contributed to his goal. The whole team deserves a pat on the back and I hope they keep playing well to bring back the glory days to Malaysian football.
