Annoyed by no True Fitness class

Friday, May 29th, 2009 07:01:00

LIM, a member of the True Fitness gym in Subang Jaya, is unhappy that the outlet keeps postponing or cancelling its activity classes.

"I had signed up for 24 personal training sessions with one of the dance masters, and I was later told he had returned to India on March 23," he says.

Since then, he claims, the classes have been irregular.

"I am very unhappy that the yoga and dance classes  have been reduced by half over the last two months.

"I have been a member since 2006 and I have noticed that yoga masters who left Malaysia since 2007 have not been replaced."

LIM adds that there used to be yoga classes daily in all the three studios when these started in July 2006
- with three dance classes and the last yoga class from 9.45pm to 10.45pm.

He says that due to the lack of replacement teachers, a lot of these classes were taken out of the schedule, especially the 9.45pm class, for the year."There is a lack of accountability, responsibility and consideration for members as the management has the right to cancel any class without prior notice.

This causes a lot of inconvenience, especially when one has to rush back from KL, brave the traffic jams, and
after finding a parking lot after much difficulty, finds the class cancelled."

Because of this situation, LIM wrote a letter to the group chief executive officer, Patrick Wee, in Ngee Ann City, Singapore on April 30.

It's been three weeks since and LIM has not received any response or a courtesy call in acknowledgment
of the letter.

A SPOKESMAN for True Fitness denies that yoga classes had been cut by half in March and April.
"Actually, we had a slight dip of 12 per cent in the number of classes, for varied reasons, including our Indian and local instructors taking leave,"he says.
"While we try to maintain a regular class schedule, it is impossible for us to commit to permanent class timing and fixed class offerings as schedules are dependent on instructors' personal schedules and for reasons, as cited above where instructors leave the country for personal reasons or home leave.
"True Fitness has gone the extra mile to hire local part-time instructors to ensure classes carry on with minimal disruption."
He says last-minute cancellation of classes only happens when yoga instructors are ill or need to take emergency leave - with most times, the reason being the former.
"While True Fitness is sorry for the inconvenience LIM went through, we seek LIM's understanding as these circumstances are unavoidable.
True Fitness' policy is for all staff, including instructors, to stay home and recuperate should they be medically unfit.
This is for the members' interest."The spokesman also says the club operations assistant manager contacted LIM on May 5 to advice that the dance instructor LIM signed up with for personal training was away for two to three months, for personal reasons.
" We would like to assure all members that True Fitness places great importance on our customers' welfare and takes their feedback seriously as a means to further improve or enhance our services."

Comments

I strongly agree with most of your comments about the service provided by true fitness. I am also a member of true fitness usj whereby i joined on April 2009; paying about RM6,000++ for me and my friend. The problem started with the empty promises that i have been told many times by their supervisor regarding my free gift and also the delay of my membership card. Believe me or not that i only received my membership card a month after joining whereas the free gifts that were promised by the supervisor did not ever came to me. I was initially told that i will receive all the free gifts within 2 weeks upon signing up but it ended up that i have not receive it until now. Upon waiting for 2 weeks, i enquired about the free gifts and i was told by the supervisor that the gifts have yet to arrived and i was then given a guaranteed statement that upon 1 more week, i will definitely receive my gifts. A week later, the same excuse was given and so the supervisor told me to wait another week. Again another week of waiting, the same excuse was given. 2 months after joining, i have not receive my gifts and so i was so fed up, i decided to terminate my membership and i insisted on getting back my refund which Steven, the assistant manager declined my request. I was so disappointed that this fitness centre does not only provide bad service to the customer. Furthermore they always provide excuses to problems face by their customers. So i have decided to bring this case to the Tribunal for further action. Does anyone of you living in Subang Jaya face the same problem? Do leave some comment regarding this matter. Thank you

I visited this site after hearing it from the members in TFTY. I absolutely agree with the comments posted and I do commiserate with the all the members, including myself. While I am not a dance enthusiast and I have been annoyed several times by the din these dance members make before & after their class which can be quite disturbing while a yoga session is on. However, for the last couple of months I must admit that I do miss their presence.....this is because classes are reduced to only 1 per day? What is it that I miss? Their exuberance, their liveliness, their exicitement.....the air or festivity about them, the trouble they take to dress up, the clothes and matching accessories is simply amazing, so colourful especially when they come in all shapes & sizes.....especially for classes conducted by the repatriated teacher. How they practise and to better their routines.....their eagerness for the next class.....to learn the next step & for the development of the story....the teacher choreograph the dance step with a story to tell for each bollywood dance. They claim that the teacher has taught them what is feminity. Wow!! Kudos to their passion for dancing. Now what is TFTY thinking, I wonder? The dance class is now packed.... like sardines. From outside the studio I can see there is only standing room for each member...I shudder to think what will happen when they start to jump, turn or as much as stretch out their arms if they are not careful....Wonder if the members will start or pick a quarrel or fight? What do you expect 40-50 dancers in a room? There are many yoga members, who did not know how to dance at all have been converted to be dance enthusiasts, and I can see that they are dancing fairly well. Well teachers.....if TFTY do not know how to appreciate you, I am sure other centers will....for it is YOU TEACHERS who brought glory & fame to TFTY (all gym goers know that TFTY is FAMOUS for their BOLLYWOOD dance classes) It's You who gave them this reputation. It is you, the people who attract the members to join and to stay and NOT the structure, fixtures. If the teacher is good, members are prepared to put up with all the inconveniences.....all those comments in Malay Mail are not new nor just cooked up. It had been there all the time, but it's the quality of the teachers (they actually take the trouble to address members' health issues & concerns) that made these members turn a blind eye & deaf ears to TFTY's inadequacies as a service provider. What's great about them? The teachers are residents, meaning that their classes are fixed for them (contrary to what the TFTY spokesman's reply to MM, it's only when the locals came in that the timetable changes almost evey week) and the timetable is usually set for 1 month. That's the beautiful part of TFTY, member can plan their work & activities to fit in their favourite classes....except like lim mentioned....they start to cancel classes when yoga master are sick and they do not have sufficient teachers to replace them....or may be they are not paid for the extra classes, like overtime? Teachers take turns to have 1 day off per week. Unlike other fitness centers, TFTY has yoga & dance classes on all holidays (even May 1) be it their own new year, CNY, Raya, Deepavali, X'mas & Jan 1. That's the beautiful part of TFTY. Local teachers come in & immediately after the class they have to rush off to another center, it has become a bit impersonal and when one has some personal concerns to be addressed. Now it's sad....the center used to be so full of life is ghostly quiet......like a mortuary when the air con is turned on (very cold), like a furnace when the air con is turned off.....and attendance in yoga classes is poor except for hot yoga. Has anyone tried their yoga studio in PJ? How can anyone can do yoga (even hot yoga) in a carpeted studio? Because of the shortage of teachers, the existing resident teachers have to take on more hot yoga classes....no wonder there are more cancellation (at least now they replacement) of classes. It's no joke...hot yoga need not necessarily be good, especially when one, like the teachers, is doing it 2 times a day for at least 5 to 6 days of the week. I can only take 1 class a week....that is only if I have not been attending class for some time...to help me gain back some form of flexibility. I just hope that TFTY will try, as soon as possible, settle this issue for the benefit of all concerned.

What the members said are the truth. I will not repeat but instead wish to add among those mention, please also look into your facilities. Light bulbs in the studio are not replaced. Very often we have to dance/yoga in a gloomy room. The washroom are either very cold or aircond not switch on at all. Hot yoga room and mats are so smelly. Some mats are already worn off, but TF dont seem to want to change until ......at their whim? TFTY please remember that actions always speak louder than words.....No matter how much you defend yourself its of NO MEANING.

As a TFTY member, I am not satified with the reply from the TF spokeman. The classes is not only reduce by 12% but more. From 7 Yoga Masters and 2 Dance Teachers for the TY Subang Jaya center. Now only left with 2 Yoga Masters and 1 Dance Teacher. Please recount again the reduction of classes available in year 2007 vs 2009. Even with the 12% reduction in classes as the spokeman mentioned will the TFTY also refund the 12% of membership fee? We pay for full and expected to get 100% of what we have paid for. We understand that TFTY try to get local master/ teacher to replace the classes, but several time the classes have been cancelled and worst thing is the poor cummincations between management & master, the master did not know have class to be conducted while members were waiting for the classes to start at the center. Two meetings were organize by MEMBERS to seek the top management explainations & solutions. But they set Ms. Lum as the representative of TFTY who could not give any commitment and satifactory answers. Mr. Clement did not even show up his face and seriously try find time to attend those important meetings. Members feel that TFTY did not sincerely and profesionally want to solve this issue. The 3rd meeting will be on 8rd June as promised by Ms Lum, we looking forward the TOP Management (better if Patrick Wee can come) to seriously attend our problems and provide with best solutions for the members.

Very dissapointed on all these empty promises ! My favorite teachers & classes have been cancelled . When asked whether management really submit application for VISA , they said " Yes " , but until now more than 2 month still no status yet . Now worst still the fitness centre's operating hours are shortened as well. We hope the fitness centre can look into it seriously & provide better services to us .

True Fitness's claim that they contacted me on 5/5 to explain that the dance teacher was away for personal reasons is an absolute lie. I met 1 of their officer, Steven, after a yoga class on a Friday 15/5 after a gentle yoga class - 8.00pm to 9.00pm - conducted by Sandra ( a local yoga teacher). This was an accidental meeting as I was crossing the road beside the Centre and Steven was in the company of Sandra, Mahesh & another lady. I took the opportunity to ask Steven about my case. He replied, "Don't worry, Rakesh will be back!" I said, " This is what you always tell us!" Mahesh said "Why are you so angry?" I got a missed call from True Fitness Subang on Saturday, 23/5 at 1.32pm. If you want proof, I have not deleted it from my phone. There was no message, I assumed that it was one of the consultants trying to do promotion, which is not uncommon. I did not think otherwise as NO ONE from True Fitness mention anything about trying to contact me at our meeting in Desa Hartamas on Monday, 25/5 after our dance class around 9.45pm. Ms Lum, Daniel & another officer were there. I have copied & pasted Clement's email to me on Monday 25/5: Firstly, thank you for your email and the concerns raised in your letter. Please rest assured that this is being looked into on an urgent note. We will further advise you in the shortest time possible with the ongoings. I did not reply as I thought it unnecessary as we were going to meet up that evening anyway. However from this reply, I really am very very disappointed. I am very upset with this statement: ."The spokesman also says the club operations assistant manager contacted LIM on May 5 to advice that the dance instructor LIM signed up with for personal training was away for two to three months, for personal reasons." No spokesman from True Fitness has contacted to me and conveyed the above message to me except for that chance meeting with Steven by the roadside at around 9.30pm. If I had not gone for that class & chance upon him, I wouldn't have had that conversation with him. I would like to meet this spokesman......in all these 3 years with the centre, I have never met Clement or Patrick. I only got to know Steven in early March 2009, when I went to him to request him to put up a notice to inform members that children under a certain age are not allowed into the dance or yoga studio (since this is the centre's policy as many members . This has happened so many times. The the teacher upon complaint from customer service, will have to ask the child to leave the room, and this has brought misunderstanding amongst the members. Anyone with any common sense will know better than to allow their child into a studio - accidents do and can happen. After 2 weeks when I went for class, I did not see the notice, I asked him and he said, " it doesn't look nice!" What can I say???? This is the attitude!! This incident also caused the mother to misunderstand that the teacher in question is being racist and I told him about this. Still.....nothing done!!! The first time I met & spoke to Ms Lum was at the 25/5 monday night meeting. I just hope that True Fitness in the process of trying to justify their "Professionalism", please don't tell more lies to exonerate themselves. I have always been a very quiet member, all I am interested in is to have a good stretch after a hard day's work so much so that most teachers don't even know me by my name. All you True Yoga members, now is the time to speak up....not for me but for yourselves. Some of you have paid thousands of RM for your lifetime or family packages. Regards, LIM
