SHAH ALAM: A Myanmar national was found guilty for the gruesome murder of a young Indonesian maid seven years ago at a High Court here today.

Judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin found the accused, who was only 16 at the time of the alleged incident guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code for the murder of Nurmahdaleni, 20, at a house in Jalan Kesuma 6, Taman Kesuma in Ampang, Hulu Langat on June 11, 2003, between 11am to 5pm.

SHAH ALAM: Two policemen were charged with three counts of bribery at two Session courts here this morning.

Corporal Muhamad Abdullah, 47, and Corporal Baba Ibrahim, 48, both with the Pandamaran police station in Klang, were first charged under Section 11(a) of the Anti Corruption Act 1997 for corruptly obtaining bribery of RM1,600 from lorry driver Mohd Noorhan Ahmad, 32, on Sept 9, 2008.

Wong Chuan How, special assistant to Selangor exco Ronnie Liu, is on trial for CBT charges involving a RM2,500 cheque.

SHAH ALAM: An unemployed man was sentenced to hang by the High Court this morning for the brutal murder of university student Tang Lai Meng three years ago.

Tay Kok Wah, 32, who was calm and smiling when judgment was read out to him, was found guilty of the charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, of murdering the then 20-year-old first-year business administration student of University Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) on Aug 2, 2007, at 4.30am at her rented house, 27, Jalan Putra 4/1, Section 1, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Kajang.

SHAH ALAM: A Pakistani national was charged at the High Court here today for trafficking 8,266gm of dangerous drugs.

The accused, Muhammad Hanif Siddiqui, 37, claimed trial to the charge when is was read out to him by an interpreter.

He was charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking 7,441gm of heroin and 825gm of monoacetylmorphines, which is punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same act which carries a maximum death penalty upon conviction.

KUALA LUMPUR: High Court judge Datuk Ghazali Cha overturned the 2007 conviction of former Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) managing director, 57, this morning.

He was convicted on Jan 11, 2007, on five counts of criminal breach of trust involving a total of RM3,874,000 at the AIM office at Jalan Ledang, off Jalan Duta.

For that, the Sessions Court here today found Lance Corporal Shaharazman Mazlan, 39, of the Royal  Malaysian Police, guilty of the bribery charge in 2006.

Sessions Court judge Mat Ghani Abdullah this morning set Jan 28 to announce his decision on the five-year-old bribery case involving lance corporal Shaharazman Mazlan, a cop attached to the Section 6 police station here.

Shaharazman, who is in his 30s, was charged on Feb 3, 2006, for accepting RM190 bribe from Indonesian national Holili Hadari, in exchange for not taking action against Indonesian workers from HMJ Enterprise.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government must do more to encourage the growth of trade unions in the country, says Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) president Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud.

He said this when commenting on claims  by the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE), that the Human Resources Ministry had not been referring trade dispute cases to the industrial court as it should.

The NUBE claim that appeared in an online news portal yesterday, also accused the ministry of promoting "union busting".

KUALA LUMPUR: Electrical engineering student Robert Anthonysamy, 21, was spared the gallows after he pleaded guilty to possessing 872 grams of cannabis at the High Court here this morning.

Judicial Commissioner Azman Abdullah sentenced him to eight years jail and 10 whippings after accepting Robert's plea to a lesser charge, from Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking to Section 39A(2) of the same Act this morning.

The prosecution agreed to an alternative charge after Robert's counsel sent in a representation.

Syariah High Court judge Mohamad Khalid Shaee today set the trial date for the custody hearing involving the astronaut's parents, Datuk Sheikh Mustapha Sheikh Abdul Shukor, 75, and Datin Zuraida Sheikh Ahmad, 65.

KUALA LUMPUR: The freeze on new Indonesian maids has resulted in Cambodians taking their place.

The ban was put in place by Indonesia following cases of Indonesian domestic workers being abused in Malaysia.

Malaysian Association of Foreign Maid Agencies (Papa) president Alwi Bavutty told The Malay Mail that employers were hiring maids from other countries, especially Cambodia.

Before the freeze, a single maid agency would only bring in 20 Cambodians maids, said Alwi.

The Putrajaya MACC officer, Raub Ghani, had earlier lodged a police report on Jan 1 stating that he suspected Thai forensic pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunan had leaked information on Beng Hock's second post-mortem report to unauthorised people.
