SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is adamant about proceeding with the audit of Yayasan Basmi  Kemiskinan's (YBK) properties and assets.

This, despite having its auditing exercise attempt last Monday at the YBK's premises at Kelana Jaya ending with officers from the Selangor Secretariat Office's (SUK) internal audit section being asked to leave upon arrival.

An aide to Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said yesterday that "we will audit YBK's properties based on our records. We don't need to contact YBK lawyers".

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government's attempt to audit Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) was thwarted when officers from the Selangor Secretariat Office's (SUK) internal audit section were asked to leave yesterday morning.

"We told the officers if they want to audit our assets and properties, they must correspond with our lawyers first," YBK chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Sakom told The Malay Mail, adding that two officers the foundation office arrived at the YBK's premises in Kelana Jaya here at about 10am.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is upset with Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad's (SPNB) lack of preparation at a briefing in Parliament yesterday, resulting in a three-week delay due to insufficient information.

PAC deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw said as the questions raised by the committee were based on the 2008 Auditor-General's report, the government housing agency should have come prepared.

"There must be professionalism on the side of SPNB as the whole company is running on government funds.

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN), especially Umno, must not be pressured into siding NGOs that fight for special rights of a specific race if they want to win the hearts of the people, caution most political observers.

PETALING JAYA: Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng is a lonely guy these days. He says he has been 'deserted'  by his Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) brethren since he openly criticised Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng recently.

Tan and Bayan Baru MP, Datuk Zahrain Mohamed Hashim, had raised issues about the State leadership, particularly against Lim, whom they said was not sensitive to problems discussed by PKR allies in the coalition.

SHAH ALAM: Lawyer Zairus Effendi Suhaimi denied he had illegally acted for house owner Hazlinda Hamzah, 46, after his services were terminated in 2008.

"During the time I was engaged by Hazlinda, I found out via a writ of affidavit by the bank during the application of auction that she had engaged another lawyer."

PETALING JAYA: Members of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition want Bayan Baru MP Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohd Hashim to resign from his parliamentary seat to make way for a by-election.

They echoed PKR election director Fuziah Salleh's challenge for Zahrain to resign for a by-election to be called.

PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat's secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has clarified that its former disciplinary committee chairman Datuk Yeop Adlan Che Rose had resigned "last year".

Saifuddin, who took over as the new PKR secretary-general in January, said he was not aware why Yeop Adlan had resigned.

"The reason is secondary. What's important was that he has resigned and a new chairman was appointed," he said.

PETALING JAYA: The recent media reports of infighting within the Pakatan Rakyat coalition has given rise to questions on how serious the 'cracks' in the fragile partnership between PKR, DAP and Pas is — and how much longer the partnership can be maintained.

PUTRAJAYA: The Home Ministry has completed auditing half of the security firms in the Klang Valley.

Deputy secretary-general (security) Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ab Aziz told The Malay Mail yesterday three audit teams, consisting of two ministry enforcement officers and two Security Services Association of Malaysia (SSAM) representatives have audited 163 of the 311 security firms in the Klang Valley (central zone).
