KUALA LUMPUR: The transfer of 20 officers out of City Hall should not be viewed as “a major earthquake reshuffle”, said KL mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail.

Ahmad Fuad told The Malay Mail this morning that two highranking directors were among 20 people being moved out effective this week but said it was part of the government’s “cross fertilisation” plan.

PETALING JAYA: The proposal to allow refugees to work in Malaysia will be discussed between the Home Ministry and government agencies on March 16.

Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam said it would be attended by representatives from relevant ministries and agencies including the Ministries of Home Affairs, Human Resource, International Trade and Industry, Agriculture and Foreign Affairs, the National Security Council, Immigration Department and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees representatives.

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong's inter parte injunction application hearing regarding his defamation case against Social Care Foundation chairman Tan Sri Robert Phang and Star Publications (M) Berhad at the High Court was postponed to next month.

Today's hearing, before judge Dr Prasad Sandhosham Abraham, was postponed to April 5 after Wee's counsel, Ben Chan, told the court that they require more time to study affidavits in reply handed over by Phang's counsel.

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court today dismissed Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s appeal to obtain key documents from the prosecution for his upcoming sodomy trial.

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government is gathering information to put together a white paper detailing how State funds had been provided to Yayasan Baski Kemiskinan (YBK) since its inception.

The State hopes the paper will inform the public on YBK's allocations and what they have been used for.

"The white paper will also show the extent of the State government's participation in YBK's dealings," said an aide of the State government.

AMPANG: Victims of the December 2008 Bukit Antarabangsa landslide tragedy seem to have an uphill battle on their hands over their compensation claims.

This looks evident as the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council plans to stonewall any of their compensation claims.

A council spokesperson yesterday said: "As far as the council is concerned, I don't think we have ever promised any compensation to the victims. I'm not sure if there had been any such promises by the Federal or State governments.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Draft Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 is expected to be gazetted by the middle of this year.

Once gazetted, the plan would become the blueprint for development in the city right up to 2020, mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail said.

All objections and suggestions by stakeholders in the city have been vetted by City Hall, which has also gone through recommendations by the draft plan's Public Opinion Hearing Committee (POHC).  Ahmad Fuad told The Malay Mail that City Hall was now studying the viability of the issues raised by all quarters.

PETALING JAYA: A family from Kedah is trying to locate their lost sibling who went missing more than 10 years ago.

Ellah Awang, 39, (pic) left her family home in Kampung Meranti, Pasir Mas, Kelantan in 1999 and has not been seen since.

Her sister, Asiah, 54, who now resides in Kedah said that the family had not heard from Ellah since the death of their father, Awang Sulong.

KUALA LUMPUR: It's back to business as usual for the five clubs along Jalan P.Ramlee whose entertainment licences were revoked by Kuala Lumpur City Hall on Jan 1.

Sources told The Malay Mail last night that the decision to lift the ban was reached following appeals sent in by the outlet owners to the authorities.

However, it could not be ascertained whether the lifting of the entertainment ban came with conditions. It is also understood that the matter was discussed at a Cabinet meeting yesterday.

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government will not budge from its decision not to allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to question State employees after office hours.

State executive councillor for local government and research, Ronnie Liu, said although the Court of Appeal had yesterday ruled that the MACC can question witnesses after office hours, the State government would not allow this.

"We have to protect our people and this includes our assemblymen, councillors, civil servants, as well as myself," he told The Malay Mail.

PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal this morning ruled that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) can question witnesses beyond general office hours.

In allowing the MACC's appeal, the court reversed a High Court order last month requiring the MACC to conduct its questioning only between 8.30am to 5.30pm.

The ruling came about following a lawsuit by Kajang municipal councillor Tan Boon Wah. Tan had filed an originating summons on July 22, seeking a declaration that MACC could record statements from witnesses only during office hours.

KUALA LUMPUR: THE public need not fear as to whether H1N1 flu vaccine for children in the country is effective.

Bernama had reported this morning that the United States Centre for Disease Control had issued a recall for some 800,000 doses of H1N1 flu vaccine made by Sanofi Pasteur as the vaccine may not be effective to protect children against the virus.

The affected vaccines are pre-filled syringes for children aged six months to three years old.
